I have previously pointed out that I considered the salary of the Land Surveyor very small for the qualification Mr Prosser possesses and for which I may say there is considerable scope in the work he has to do.

5 I am of opinion that although the Land Surveyor is a subordinate officer under the Superintendent of Crown Lands the duties of the two offices are so different and the circumstances of the case justify Mr Prosser's application to the favourable consideration of His Excellency the Governor.
(c. entitled to draw half his own salary and half that of Superintendent of Crown Lands viz: ($125+$75) = $200 a month for five out of the nine months that he will be required to perform the duties of both offices that is to say average salary during period will be $177.100 or $72 less than the salary attached to the office of Superintendent of Crown Lands alone.
I may say that should His Excellency the Governor be pleased to approve, the estimated departmental expenditure will not be exceeded owing to the office of Temporary Land Surveyor being vacant for the greater part of the year.
